Webinar: Auditing E/M vs. Psychotherapy in Integrated Behavioral Health
Trainer: Sonda Kunzi
Time: 2:00pm EST

Webinar Description:
In integrated behavioral health settings, the lines between medical management and psychotherapy often blur—particularly when both services occur during the same patient encounter. This webinar dives deep into the nuanced challenges of auditing split visits where psychiatric E/M and psychotherapy codes are reported together.

We’ll explore CPT coding rules, time tracking expectations, and documentation standards that determine whether separate services are justified—or bundled. Through real-case analysis and audit-based scenarios, attendees will develop confidence in reviewing behavioral health documentation for accuracy, compliance, and defensibility. Differentiate between psychiatric E/M services (99202–99215 with add-on code 90833/90836/90838) and standalone psychotherapy services (90832–90838), based on CPT guidelines.

Evaluate documentation to determine if both E/M and psychotherapy are separately identifiable and clinically supported in a single encounter.

Audit time-based behavioral health services, including how overlapping time is handled when E/M and psychotherapy are billed together.
