Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) has opened the door to innovative care delivery—but it’s also introduced new risks when it comes to coding, documentation, and compliance. From unclear supervision requirements to overlapping time tracking, RPM services require a clear understanding of both the rules and the potential pitfalls.
This session will explore the legal considerations auditors and compliance professionals should be aware of when reviewing RPM services. We’ll cover regulatory requirements, payer variations, and what auditors should look for in terms of data accuracy, device documentation, and provider responsibility. While not a legal training, this session will highlight where legal concerns may intersect with audit findings—and when it's time to elevate an issue.
Describe the regulatory requirements for billing RPM services, including time thresholds and data transmission standards.
Recognize potential legal and compliance risks such as overbilling, improper use of devices, or lack of documented patient consent.
Evaluate audit findings for RPM with attention to provider supervision, frequency of services, and documentation support.
Identify when an RPM concern may present a broader compliance or legal risk that should be escalated to appropriate stakeholders.
